Peg Solitaire: what to know before playing

Bring your attention to one round of Peg Solitaire. Leave a single peg on the English cross board. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Check the rule that explains your first action. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

One thing to notice as you play

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Keep the objective visible.

The purpose of your moves

How a round unfolds

  1. Select a peg and an empty hole two squares away.
  2. Jump horizontally or vertically over one peg, removing it.
  3. Plan so remaining pegs can still interact.
  4. Undo repairs a deadlock.

How to use the controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

An example before you play

Peg–peg–empty in one line permits one jump. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Choose a deliberate next step.
